picturePeter Broderick
with Bills Wells/Stefan Schneider (Pianotapes) & Tsukimono

Peter Broderick grew up in a small town Portland in Oregon. Coming from a musical family, he started violin lessons at age 7, he soon started to play piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, musical saw, and anything else he could find.

In late 2007 he was miraculously invited by some of his musical heroes, the Danish band Efterklang, to move to Copenhagen and join the live band. So he did, and since then he has toured with the band all around the world, playing hundreds of concerts, and opening many of them as a solo act. Since this move he has released several solo recordings as well. Starting with a few primarily instrumental, piano-based releases in 2007, then branching out into a completely different world with the more folky ‘Home’ in late 2008, which has all but established Broderick as the young composer to watch – with critical acclaim from music magazines

Bill Wells & Stefan Schneider - Pianotapes:
Wells plays fragile scales on the Bechstein grand piano, while Schneider records them on two old reel-to-reel tape machines and plays the recordings back at altered speeds. This real-time recording process is reflected in the piano playing by Wells, who replies with modulation and key changes, building the sounds and ideas into his improvisation, playing with them and developing them. Bill Wells is the Nestor of the Glasgow indie scene. The bassist, guitarist and pianist has worked with the likes of The Pastels and BMX Bandits as well as recording an album with Isobel Campbell, formerly singer/cellist in Belle & Sebastian. Stefan Schneider is part of the trio To Rococo Rot, has a solo project, Mapstation.
