Brought to you by Arctic Circle Radio, the Circle is a new weekly podcast that takes you on a one-hour journey based on the most simple and significant of shapes. Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.
Edition 22 – Mix by James Banbury / serviceAV: By way of a sort of ‘thank you’, I’m going on a journey through a non-exhaustive group of friends and collaborators who have affected the direction of my own musical travels over the past few years. Some of the tracks are obscure and a few are unreleased exclusives. All DJ-speak on my mix for The Circle is by various speech synthesisers including Vox3000 (iPhone App by retronyms) and Speak it! (by FutureApps, also on the iPhone) with much mangling in Ableton Live done after the fact. I start and end my mix with Ghosts – the David Sylvian / Japan classic – as reformed firstly by Infantjoy (my electronic chamber group with Paul Morley) with the excellent Sarah Nixey acting as interpreter, and lastly by Populous (from the Infantjoy album With), plus a bonus unreleased snippet by Bix Buster. My latest project, Dadahack (with Stockholm-based musician and technologist Pete Davis), appears with the track The Strong One featuring a beautiful vocal performance by Rachael Bell. Dadahack is releasing their debut album TAP3 in early 2010 which will be available on a very interesting format. Plus downloads of course. Oh yes. Thanks for listening.

Edition 21 – Mix by Antony Harrison / 12k: I love Taylor Deupree’s 12k label – it’s releases are like sumptuous tonal buffets for the ear. 12 years of Inspirational releases, gorgeous packaging and delicious design. I’d like to think that this little mix gives an accurate taster of the label and will inspire folk to dig deeper in.

This mix brings together tracks from our project 14 Versions of the Same EP.
It represents perhaps the more ’subtle’ sounds from a project bringing
together experimental artists from the UK, US and Australia. Each artist
has taken 4 core audio parts, and done whatever they like them to create 4
new tracks. They are then released as an EP ‘Version’, and will be brought
together for a box set in 2010.
