The Circle – A Fat Cat Records mix by Dave Howell (Edition 10) 28 July 09

fatcatBrought to you by Arctic Circle Radio, the Circle is a new weekly pad-cast that takes you on a one-hour journey based on the most simple and significant of shapes. Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.

Edition 10 – Fat Cat Records Mix by Dave Howell:

There’s no grand concept or narrative guiding the choices – it’s all stuff from the FatCat vaults, a mixture of some classic older tracks with a few overlooked gems that deserve to be heard again. I just started out with a track from Black Dice’s ‘Beaches & Canyon’s’, which I think works as a great opener, and from there, just basically picked things that I felt fit alongside one another and kept.

The Circle – Type Records mixed by Ryan Teague (Edition 9) 21 July 09

RyanTBrought to you by Arctic Circle Radio, the Circle is a new weekly pad-cast that takes you on a one-hour journey based on the most simple and significant of shapes. Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.

Edition 9 – Mix by Ryan Teague (Type Records):

Having been involved with Type Records since the early days I’ve seen it evolve and develop as a label. At the time I became involved the scene was shifting from the tail end of ambient IDM into something more organic. Amongst other labels, Type represented this evolution which begun to incorporate the diverse elements of acoustic music, lo-fi, drone, improv and later song and even pop. But for me, the common thread that ran throughout all these releases (some 50+ now), and the element I most enjoy, is the cinematic quality that much of the music incorporates. This mix aims to illustrate through releases past, present and future, how this diverse range of artists spanning a global network each incorporate this element applied through their own practice.

The Circle – Sweet Billy Pilgrim (Edition 7) 7 July 09

Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.

Edition 7 – Mix by Sweet Billy Pilgrim: It’s a mix I put together as an alternative to physical violence or oral coffee spraying, for those moments when someone says to you, “There’s just no good music about these days”. From the woozy crisis-summit guitars of Swirlies to the exquisite restraint of Jo Hamilton’s voice, and all points inbetween… I could have done 20 of these; all filled with magic and mayhem.
