Hello, Dolly Dolly here with just a few words about my diddy mix for the Arctic Circle. It’s Easter and spring is in full flow. So what better way to celebrate than with the joys of light music! Hooray! Yes – nether classical nor easy-listening, nether Library music nor um – er, something else? Light Music in my mind is a strangely English phenomenon (it may not be – I don’t really know, I’m sure if you were so inclined you’d Google it), as English as Yorkshire pudding, pigeon fancying, red post boxes and knitted woollen cardigans. I’d like to think you could play this mix to your oldest surviving relative and they’d happily nod off in the armchair with a contented smile on their wrinkly faces. Of course I couldn’t just leave it at that, I couldn’t help myself and so apropos of nothing there’s random samples of English people saying things that have little or no relevance to the music but somehow they seemed to work.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Happy Easter everyone.”

Edition 52 – Zdeněk Liška Mix (by Gurun Gurun)

Zdeněk Liška (16 March 1922 – 13 August 1983) was a Czech composer who produced a large of number film scores across a prolific career. He was very relevatory in development of experimental electronic music, composed for several movies from the beginning of his work that started in the 1950s, and thrilled in using unique sound sources. To celebrate what would have been his 90th birthday Arctic Circle Radio is proud to bring you this selection of his work, kindly mixed and compiled by Jara Tarnovski of Gurun Gurun.
