Brought to you by Arctic Circle Radio, the Circle is a new weekly podcast that takes you on a one-hour journey based on the most simple and significant of shapes. Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.

Edition 53 – Arctic Circle 6th Birthday Mix

To celebrate our sixth birthday Arctic Circle’s Jeremy Dye gives us his first-ear perspective…”My first encounter with Arctic Circle was back in 2007 when I made the trip to The Spitz to see Max Richter which kick started a journey of musical discovery that they alone seemed to uniquely share. Over the last few years I’ve been privileged to witness many special performances. Hopefully this mix does justice to the variety and quality of performers that have graced their stage. Happy Birthday!

To coincide with Arctic Circle first Easter Broadcast on Monday 9 April. Details of which can be found here, Dolly Dolly has very kind put together an Easter Mix. He says

“Ahhhh, Spring! Baby Lambs! Easter eggs! Roast potatoes! All the greats!

Hello, Dolly Dolly here with just a few words about my diddy mix for the Arctic Circle. It’s Easter and spring is in full flow. So what better way to celebrate than with the joys of light music! Hooray! Yes – nether classical nor easy-listening, nether Library music nor um – er, something else? Light Music in my mind is a strangely English phenomenon (it may not be – I don’t really know, I’m sure if you were so inclined you’d Google it), as English as Yorkshire pudding, pigeon fancying, red post boxes and knitted woollen cardigans. I’d like to think you could play this mix to your oldest surviving relative and they’d happily nod off in the armchair with a contented smile on their wrinkly faces. Of course I couldn’t just leave it at that, I couldn’t help myself and so apropos of nothing there’s random samples of English people saying things that have little or no relevance to the music but somehow they seemed to work.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Happy Easter everyone.”
