Bird To Beast is the brainchild of Sam and Hannah Hird. The duo both grew up in the Lancashire town of Colne. They signed an album deal with new Manchester indie MUK Records and released their eponymous debut album in November 2013. Steve Lamacq has been an early champion of the band, playing both new single, Elephant as well as album track Tides. Alex Lester has also been playing the band on his BBC Radio 2 show.
Describing her music as ‘poetry set to song’, Rachel Hillary has much in common with other nu-folk artists from Manchester and sees her live performance surrounded by any combination from simply her and a guitar to that of ukeleles, mandolins, djembe drums and banjos. She also relies on spontaneity as a source of inspiration, much like the Beat poets; all kinds of great things can happen by accident. Fans of Feist, Birdy, Melanie Safka and Bob Dylan will find Rachel Hillary a complimentary addition to their (already impeccable) music catalogue.
Olympian is the latest musical project from Manchester based singer-songwriter Aron Robinson. After spending his formative years growing up in Manchester and Canada, Aron has been involved in various musical projects in and around the Manchester music scene over the past few years, gradually honing his sound and culminating in the breakthrough success of Olympian. Lyrically, Olympian deal with those universal themes of love and loss that we can all readily relate to whilst, musically, Robinson’s weathered and intimate vocals are juxtaposed against sparse, shimmering arrangements.
